Mile high above our neighboring desert communities, Idyllwild is a great escape- with soul- stirring beauty, heart warming local charm, and an eclectic array of shops and restaurants. Home of the renowned Jazz in the Pines Festival, live music can be heard practically every night and all weekend, coupled by a wide array of culinary delights. With outdoor barbeque and beer to fine wine and Italian cuisine to sushi and sake, there’s something for everyone. You can grab a burger and sweet potato fries or pack gourmet sandwiches for a picnic, even snack on bison jerky, but you won’t find any fast food chains here.

Although our streets are traffic-free (we don’t even have any traffic signals!), you are encouraged to park and leisurely stroll through our unique shops and local art galleries.  Take in the sites of town from a horse-drawn carriage.  You’ll want to drive uptown though to search for unique treasures from antiques to new age books.  You might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of our elusive mascot, the Idyll Beast!

Our natural beauty and talented artists provide many events and reasons to visit. Throughout the year the Art Alliance of Idyllwild and Idyllwild Arts Academy host shows, including the favorite Art and Wine Walk in October. Snowy winter days provide the perfect backdrop, to cozy up in the theater for January’s Idyllwild Independent Festival of Cinema or to bring the family for snow play and cross country skiing.

Spring sees the lilacs and wildflowers blooming, and in July, we celebrate the Lemon Lily Festival dedicated to the restoration of this local beauty.  Each year, Idyllwild plays host to the many Pacific Crest Trail hikers, as well as the Idyllwild Spring Challenge mountain bike race.  Our colorful fall foliage and small town Independence Day Parade all showcase the appeal of Idyllwild.

The mountain itself is reason to come to Idyllwild.  From the breath-taking views to the smallest wildflowers, we have miles of hiking trails to explore.  Rock climbers come from all over for our internationally renowned Tahquitz Rock and Suicide Rock.  Relax on the lakeshore and fish at our two local lakes- bring your binoculars and you may catch a glimpse of our resident bald eagles!  The Nature Center is a family favorite from their interactive displays to easy hiking along Lily Creek to fun events like Butterfly Daze.
