Art and Culture in Idyllwild
From the informality of a Saturday Morning Art Café
held in the galleries to the two day Jazz in the Pines festival,
Idyllwild has earned the distinction of becoming one of the 100 Best
Small Art Towns in America (as designated in the book of the same
name by John Villani, A John Muir publication).
With numerous galleries presenting the work
of more than 200 artists, visitors will find seldom seen art
treasures in jewelry, furniture, glass, ceramics, paintings,
photography, wood, weavings and sculpture. The gallery association
of the Art
Alliance of Idyllwild makes sure that your will see unique and
individual work at every gallery space.
The Art Alliance of Idyllwild
schedules numerous visual art events in the galleries and for
its artist members. Major gallery openings and artist
events are on the first Saturday of the month from March through
December. The Sunday Morning Art Café's which present local artists
in informal and educational demonstrations are popular with local
residents and visitors from May through September. The annual Art
Walk and Wine Tasting turns the village into an art festival with
keepsake wine glasses, more than 28 wineries, horse drawn carriages,
entertainment and special exhibitions in every gallery.
Music, dance, and theatre in the
pines is a weekly occurrence. Everything from the two day Jazz in
the Pines in August to a series of summer concerts in the park and
the annual Messiah by the Master Chorale provide opportunities to
experience world class orchestras, soloists, jazz masters and local
musicians.
Community theatre groups and student
productions in dance and theatre from the Idyllwild
Arts Academy to Idyllwild's own professional theatre company,
Isis Theatre Company, are ongoing throughout the year. |
